The 1963 album Getz/Gilberto has gone down in the annals of jazz history as a seminal recording, bringing together three giants of the genre: Stan Getz’s lyrical saxophone playing, Antônio Carlos Jobim’s haunting compositions, and João Gilberto’s bossa nova guitar work. Stealing the show was Gilberto’s wife, Astrud, whose soft, lyrical vocals are perfectly captured by Brighton-based singer Ela Southgate. The band features London-based Stan Getz aficionado James Allsopp (tenor sax), along with Chris Coull (flugelhorn), and a rhythm section led by Matt Wall (guitar), with Joss Peach (piano), Dan Sheppard (bass), and Angus Bishop (drums).
