Born in Newport Beach, California, in 1958, guitarist Howard Alden was quickly recognized and sought-out for appearances and recordings with such artists as Joe Bushkin, Ruby Braff, Joe Williams, Warren Vache` and Woody Herman. He has been a Concord Jazz recording artist since the late ’80s where his prolific recorded output as leader, co-leader, and versatile sideman, has captured an artist of consistently astonishing virtuosity and originality.
Geoff Simkins stylistic influences have been the American alto player Lee Konitz and tenor player Warne Marsh. Geoff often works with American musicians who are visiting the UK, including Art Farmer, Bobby Shew, Al Cohn, Tal Farlow, Slide Hampton, Warren Vache, Al Grey, Kenny Davern, Bill Berry, Al Casey, Howard Alden, Ruby Braff, Bill Coleman and Conte Candoli. Geoff is also a respected teacher, and as well as running improvisation courses in Brighton, UK, he has been a regular tutor at the famous Glamorgan Jazz Summer School in Wales.
Simon Woolf (bass) is known for his lyrical solos he has in recent years toured with such leading American soloists as Harry Allen, Chris Cheek and Grant Stewart. These days you are just as likely to find him seated at the keyboard from where he leads a quartet featuring Andy Panayi in programmes built around the work of the big five songwriters.
